We play a mix of originals, jazz standards, tunes by contemporary jazz composers and some other tunes by artists we like (Hendrix, Bjork, Gillian Welch and more).

Zachary Swanson is a versatile bassist performing music in an array of styles, with focus on improvised, experimental, original and folk music. Using gut strings and a personalized technique, Zachary has developed a conception of the double bass that heightens the integrity of various musical environments; from playing adventurous improvised music to backing singer-songwriters. Swanson has appeared on albums released by 577 Records (Federico Ughi Quartet’s Heart Talk and The Listening Group’s debut album released September 2018), pfMentum (Sanctuary by Trumpets and Basses), and nusica.org (Dogwood’s Hecate’s Hounds). As an independent artist, he has been a part of many self-released albums over the years including the aforementioned Harbinger (2019), Chamber Music (2016), a duo release with guitarist Stelios Mihas, Antenna (2015), the Movement Trio’s Back of the Room (2012) among others. Zachary has performed at series’ and festivals such as the Red Hook Jazz Festival with Tomchess’ Moonship Quartet, the Inside Out music series at Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, the 577 Forward Festival, AE Randolph Presents, and is a regular performer at the Bushwick Improvised Music Series. He has also appeared at the Great Eastern Music Festival in Montauk, Falcon Ridge, Take me to the River, and Charm City Folk and Bluegrass Festival backing folk and Americana artists such as Letitia VanSant, He-Bird She-Bird, Greg Cornell, and Pluck & Rail. Zachary began his bass studies at the age of 6 in his home state of Massachusetts, and is a graduate of the Peabody Conservatory of Music of the Johns Hopkins University. He can be seen performing regularly throughout New York City and beyond.
Deric Dickens is a Brooklyn-based percussionist and composer. After growing up in Southern Georgia, Deric worked as a band director, taught drum and bugle corps, and played as a principal timpanist with local orchestras and symphonies. But it was the ride cymbal; a friend had asked him to play at a session, which changed everything. Since, Dickens has toured and recorded with Robinella (Columbia Records) and JaLaLa (Janis Siegel Manhattan Transfer). Deric has performed numerous times and recorded with Donald Brown, Jerry Coker, Joe Fiedler, Daniel Carter, Michael Bates, Kirk Knuffke, and Jeff Lederer at various clubs and festivals including Birdland, 55 Bar, Bonnaroo, Bristol Rhythm and Roots, Atlas Performing Arts, Blue Note, Beijing, Knoxville Jazz Festival, Litchfield Jazz Festival, GDS Jazz Festival, The Muroran Jazz Festival Japan, AMR Switzerland, Cafe Oto, London, Cully Jazz Festival Cully Switzerland. He currently leads his groups Speed Date, Rocket #9, The Dickens Campaign, and Left Bomb Bay and co leads Dix Out (avant trad. band), Team Players, Arabic for Beginners, and Zero Point with Marius Duboule- Guitar, Daniel Carter - Winds, Michael Bates - Bass. Deric was recently runner up in Drum Magazines 2014 Drummie awards in the Rising Star category and his album Oh Lovely Appearance was featured as a Best Of For Summer Listening by The Guardian UK. Deric has also has been asked to work on numerous movie soundtracks. His last being the adaptation of Philip Roth’s book Indignation, directed by James Schamus.
